A silly question maybe? DVD-RW's....

I'm not 100% technically minded so can someone gently answer this question please

Can a "DVD-RW 16x Dual Layer Optical Drive" burn cd's? :o

You'll be able to record several cds to one DVD, however I think I'm right in saying that you'll only be able to play it back on a DVD player, not a CD player.

  • Oh :( so does this mean I won't be able to burn a cd to play in my cd player?

No it doesn't mean you can't burn cd's to play in a cd player, but can your CD player play "copied" discs?

  • Yes you can burn cd's for use in a cd player on a dvd burner :)
  • ok look

dvd burners can burn cdr's which can be played on cd players as long as they are capable of playing the right format.

If you buy a music album and copy that directly to a blank cd (i.e. for legal purposes say you make a back up of your own music album) then this should play on any cd player.

Now if you are making a compilation cd of different music tracks on your computer which contains mp3's then you have to make sure the cd player you want to play it on can also play music in the mp3 format.
If its quite an old cd player then you may find it cant. Most new/ newish cd players today are geared to play mp3's and even if ur current cd player cannot play them....there are plenty of cheap good cd players out on the market today which can.

Hope this makes sense for you.

Lois Lane clouded the issue, by mentioning dvd burning.

DVD writers are backwardly compatible with CD writers, so dont worry it will do the job for you.
