Boo Hoo, the cooker's packed up!

Options
All this OS cooking has made my cooker give up the ghost! Just because it was really cheap and it's 15 years old. Now all my savings are going to have to go on new one. Waahhh!

try putting a wanted add on freecycle.

There are lots of people out there who rip out perfectly good kitchens etc with appliances just because they have to have a new kitchen every X number of years.

    Worth a try.
  • That really is a good idea, I'm straight onto it!
  • Are you sure it's packed up ? I don't mean to sound patroninsing, but I thought mine had paked up once and was ready to buy another, when someone suggested I check that the manual function hadn't accidentallly been switched off - thus making the oven fail to come on.

This was indeed what had happened, a nameless small child had done it  . I turned it back on and hey presto cooker working again. It happened to a friend of mine too, and she thought the oven had packed up.
  • After checking other suggestion regarding manual function and still not working, is it just the oven, or the whole cooker? If it is just the oven, could be that element has gone. Happened to me with last cooker, and didn't cost a lot to replace.
  • We've explored all avenues, and it seems to be the thermostat. The cooker is very old, so probably not worth fixing. But I might on the trail of a second hand canon. I'll keep you posted!
  • when mine packed up i stuck a wanted add in local newsagents window, got one for £30 somene had ripped out (as it didn't match the new kitchen????????????) and its still going strong 4 years on. think it cost me 60p for 2 weeks in newsagents window.
    £2 saver club 30th sept 198 £2 coins = £396(£350 banked)
  • OK, put a notice on our intranet at work, someone who is having a new kitchen has given me her old cooker - old! She bought it 18 months ago when hers packed up, but now she's having all built in appliances. It's lovely, it's a cannon range style with a griddle plate and all! Not the double wide one, just a normal single size, but it's all cream black and gold and I love it! Thanks for the suggestion, saved me hundreds!

  • HI
I really like 2nd hand stuff/pass-me-downs - being well used to it concidering I was the last of 4. Now its the case some of my cloths get worn by the neices when they come with no jackets & jumpers.

Our telly is 2nd hand from a 2nd hand shop (man who repairs tellys). Its the biggest weve ever had at 32' and is great.

Were very fortunate in our house as my sis has a tendency to re-decorate every so often and guess what... the couch comes to us or what ever she's no use for. Im still waring some clothes she de-junked from her OH years after - quality M & S stuff.

Yes, Im big on 2nd hand (generally).
