Unlocking locked laptop???

Hi All
Hope someone can help.
I've still got my old laptop from my former company.
The problem is the IT administrator locked the laptop and everytime I logged on I got the message 'this laptop is locked please contact your administrator'.
I've re-installed windows XP but still unable to gain access to the laptop.
Is there anyway of unlocking a 'remote administrator blocked' laptop and still use this laptop?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
Mark

its probably locked at bios level , many companies use safeboot or similar systems to make them worthless and the data unreadable if stolenEx forum ambassador

The clue is in the post.I've still got my old laptop from my former company.
It's their laptop, not yours. You risk being done for theft. Return it.0 -
Depending on whether you kept the laptop for a legal reason.....

It's probably a really stupid suggestion, but how about contacting the IT Administrator of your old company for help? S/he will know ever so much more about the matter than anyone here, by definition!0

No need for such a snarky response. How do you know he has stolen the laptop? Many companies let you keep hold of old laptops, they are hard to upgrade and once they become obsolete the company would have to pay to have them discarded. The clue is in the post.

Since the OP seems to have been able to reinstall windows I wouldn't imagine it being locked in the BIOS. Also since you're able to boot from the CD you can wipe the hard drive using something like http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm or boot the xp discs and fdisk the hard drive. Assuming you have no data you want to keep on the hard drive.0
