    Evening...

I have been eligible for corporate cards before but never bothered but the amount i will be spending on travel/hotels is beyond my means at the moment.

The question i have is when i apply for the card will my credit rating be used to determine if i can have it or not?

My rating has taken a knock recently and i am worried i wont get this card if it is used, i have been told by someone that a lot of corporate cards dont bother as the company is responsible not the person.. is this true?

    Any help would be great.

In my experience there is no credit check on the individual by Amex. No search had appeared on my credit file and the card itself does not come up on my equifax or experian credit files. The contract is between the company and Amex. Your company will then have a policy on how you use and repay the card that you will have to accept.
  • I've recently started work with a new employer and am running up expenses in the region of £0.8k - £1k per week. I seriously can't afford this as it's affecting my cash flow in a big way. They operate an amex system and have said that's the only way to resolve the situation but I'm in the process of trying to repair my credit rating (which is appalling) and fear that making an application for an amex will flag my credit rating and could potentially make my new manager aware of my personal situation (which I would prefer to remain personal) and may even not benefit me if I end up being rejected on the basis of my credit rating anyway. I'm really worried about this and all the web post I have read offer conflicting advice. Can anyone help to clarify the situation? Thank you!!!

All corporate cards are registered to the business, not the individual.

    Not 100% true.
They may be registered to the business, but most accounts have dual liability. This is why you receive the bill and not the company.

(I have had mine for over 5 years)
  • The paper/plastic hand written purchasing card does not have any credit check made on them, also any purchasing cards issued with the companys name or that relating to a business name and also the dark green/ light blue cards dont either as these are all cards where the company is solely responsible for the debt.

If you get any of those corporate purchasing cards then you wont have any credit check done on you whatsover as we issue all these at my workplace and no one has ever been credit checked.

If you are declined, your employer will not know the reason. It could be because AmEx consider that you have too many cards already, that your availability of credit is too great a proportion of your income or any number of reasons. Not necessarily because you have a poor record.
