samsung 500gb portable HD help

i recently bought a portable 2.5" 500gb samsung drive.
However, when i try to copy and past various folders from my pc to backup on the drive such as photos and music, it keeps coming up every so often with a Cyclic Redundancy error. When it does this it stops all the copying.
its a bit annoying as theres nothing wrong with the individual files when the error comes up.
any help welcome to try and overcome this error please.

One possibility is an intermittent problem with the USB interface or cable - I have had brand new USB cables that were faulty, so try changing that first. If not that, I'd suspect a problem with the HDD itself.
I would find out the exact model of Samsung drive, then go to the their website and download their diagnostic utility, and run that on the hard disk. It may have a minor defect (perhaps if it has taken a knock while running) that can be corrected by using one or more of the drive's many spare sectors.0 -
I'm assuming you know about CRC's !, its very unusual, if not rare these days for drives to throw up CRC errors. The fact that you say "" its a bit annoying as theres nothing wrong with the individual files when the error comes up "" interests me. I assume you have checked for the several malicious programs that will cause Windows to report CRC errors.
The fact that the parity bit detected at the receiver has not matched the transmitter suggests that the two drives are unusual formats ?, are they ?
Which Model No Samsung drive ?
Is your puter very very old [ pre UDMA ] and uses a drive overlay BIOS to support large capacity drives ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. My main PC is old, but i had no problems transferring files by drag and drop to my other portable HD unit by western.
My Samsung HD is a new one type 2, apparently another person on amazon reviews had the same problem, but i dont know the solution, if there is one.0 -

Put the URL of the precise drive you bought in here and I'll have a look for you my friend.
Usually these days as fwor said its down to poor cabling although the manufacturer may have put some nonsense checker on the HDD / software. Let me see which product you bought.
Can you swap the [ known to be good ] USB cable from your Western Digital onto your Samsung and run a few tests with that cable ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Ok, let me know about the cable biz.
I mentioned in an earlier post that the manufacturer may have put some nonsense checker on the HDD. I suspect that the USB is ' timing out ' before the MOBO can report / resolve the CRC error or what Samsung describe as ' SecretZone ' is creating the problem with its protection layer because it uses a ' virtual ' drive on the USB.
I've never seen or used one of these drives, I can see why encryption via a virtual drive on your c:\ drive would work ok. but I'm unclear why the same process on a USB drive would throw up errors. The error BTW is spurious because the file / folder works ok.
You may never get this solved, I don't have one to test for you, if I did I would delete all the cr4p software from the drive and test it. Strangely I can find very few people complaining of CRC issues.
I'll get back to you friend !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
