Jobseekers

We are currently on Jobseekers, and today we received a letter saying there was a dispute in a job that my partner had not applied for, a job that the advisor had given us, even though its nearly 40 miles away from us. I mentioned that is was 40 miles away, and he said we i will just print it up for you, as you start your new deal course next week. We still looked for jobs and supplied them with a list for for the jobs we had applied for and sent CV's to. This was in August. After receiving the letter, i straight away replied and went on to the companies website and sent them the cv any way even though i knew it was impractical. My partner is the main claiment and he is on the New deal course which is 30 miles away. They assured him he could do his HGV license, then on going there they said they couldn't. They then said he could do an engineering course, and changed his cv for him stating he was in the process of studying this. Only to then tell him he cant do that either!!
What do you think i should do, as i am scared to death as we have 4 children. And i even do voluntary work so my brain doesnt seize up....lol!
Any help would be fantastic!

Also the jobcentre are giving my partner driving jobs where you need your own van, even though we dont have one!

I am completely lost - did he apply for the job or not? If so, what is the dispute?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • No he didnt apply for the job as it was 40 miles away. The dispute is because he didnt apply for the job given by the advisor. But did supply them with proof of 6 closer jobs he had applied for
  • Same as he didnt apply for the job they gave him that he required his own van when we have not got one. We now have our car on an internet site to see if anyone will swap it for a van, just to broaden our choices of jobs.
  • Hi yes i live in a village in the cotswolds, so jobs locally are hard to come so i expect he would have to travel. Cheltenham is 16 miles away which is a reasonable distance, but because he didnt apply for the job 40 miles away it looks like our money may be stopped....Which i hope it wont obviously. The car we have is tempremental at the best of times, so if that broke down he would either have to catch a bus, or get to the nearest train station which is 7 miles away. Which would still require getting a bus...

You're expected to travel up to one hour for a job.

  • Thank you for all your replies. This is really getting me down, i start to pick myself up, then boom back down i go.....I have been diagnosed with depression since i was 17 and tried to kill myself, i plod along, grateful now i have children as tbh if they were not here i doubt very much i would be. I have been searching all day as to what can happen, my partner just say's to wait and see what they say to the letter we had to send back....Wish it was that easy! Plays too much on my mind, and now i guess i will be awake all night as usual with this bugging me. Doesnt help either that my housing benefit is paid 4 weeks in arrears as standard, and my housing has asked me to clear these arrears along with a letter to seek possesion of my house....They say things happen in threes so i wonder what the next thing is.

Firstly, why are you stressing over your partners problem? He should be posting here if he wants the advice and not be putting all of this on your shoulders! Apologies for the sexist and possibly old-fashioned response I am giving here but it's generally accepted that the man should be dealing with things, especially when the issue that you have posted is directly his responsibility!

Secondly, he has to be prepared to travel for 90 minutes to and then from his job by whatever means necessary. Perhaps there are regional variations in that figure but I can confirm that for Yorkshire 90 mins is the accepted limit.

I personally would tell him to man up and deal with this issue which is of his own making and leave you out of it.
