Hi
Not sure if this the correct place to ask,
A local school in Monmouthshire has asked its staff to produce and change the following.
1) Produce driving licences from its staff to show they have no more than 9 points.
2) Produce a valid MOT certificate for that persons vehicle if its required.
3) Produce and change that persons vehicle insurance for business use, although its covered for use 'to and from thier place of work'.
The above applies to staff no matter whether they use thier vehicle for school use or not, also no matter whether they park thier vehicle on the Queens Highway alongside the school grounds or in its car park. Even if that person only uses its vehicle once or twice a month.
The staff has already had thier personal background checked by Police and attended First Aid courses for the safety of its pupils.
Has the County Council or its Headmaster the right to ask of this or is it another new bureaucratic requirement of the day.
thanks

I agree in what you say, but this headmaster is making an issue of it and wants to see the required proof asap.
This why I'm asking the question, Can do/Can't do ??0 -
not sure if it is legal or not but i would not be giving my details if i did not use my car for school things what the hell has it got to do with them.
My firm has just sent a health and safely policy around and that says that we have to provide copies of our mots, insurance showing business use and our licence but only for staff who use the car for any work related driving, not for those who just drive to work, and this has caused a god almighty row.
would be interested to know if it is legal0 -
Before I produced such info I would want to know why they wanted it.
One reason may be that they want to make that if a pupil has to be taken home or any where else by a member of staff then the car and the driver are legal?2014 Target;
To overpay CC by £1,000.
Overpayment to date : £310
2nd Purse Challenge:
£15.88 saved to date0 -
Torfaen and Newport cc have asked staff in different departments for the same and requested that business cover is on their policy but have stressed they won't pay for it.It's nice to be important but it's important to be nice! :j0

First question I would ask is:
What about the staff who don't have a license?
Do they get sacked?
In a former life I was an auditor in a County Council. And we did this exact check - But only for staff who were receiving 'Essential car User Allowance'. That was because part of the allowance was to cover adding 'business use' to your insurance.
I'm not an employment lawyer but IMO unless the requirement to have a car available for work is in your terms of employment, then no they can't insist on seeing any documents.
As a previous poster hinted, sounds like their after turning teachers into unpaid drivers at some future date.0 -
I would suggest that any teacher or member of staff in school asked to this/ likely to be asked to do this should contact their trade union for advice.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0

Thanks for your replies,
Been away last few days.
At my infant/junior school its school policy, if a pupil has to go home for what ever reason. The parents are contacted to collect their child.
At present without mentioning school name or the staff in question. There are members who have no transport and as said earlier park their cars outside on the road nearby and none drive any vehicle of the school or council or use their cars in any connection with the school or council.
From what can be understood it stems from a case where someone who had a accident in a vehicle belonging to a council and that council is being sued for liable.
Currently in the next few days, the staff will be asked to sign some document and produce as what is required and all will refuse to comply for reasons given above.

In addition to the school policy, if any pupils require transportation for such as a football match etc. The school uses a vetted listed mini bus hire or taxi service from the council.
Seen the proposed document today.
Section D - Declaration
I certify that the information, which I have provided is correct and I understand that failure to provide accurate information may lead to disciplinary action being taken.
This small group of staff at this school are refusing to produce any such information as requested, but they have no union for support, so we shall see what happens next.0 -
It has been suggested to file a grievance with their employer and run it through the process. If this was done, what sort of wording or format would this consist of.
Any help with the basis of a file would be appreciated.
