Hysteroscopy Has anyone had one?

  • I had a hysteroscopy a couple of years ago. I wasn't offered the option of local anaesthetic, just a general. I think that's the policy at our local hospital because the day I went there were half a dozen of us in the day unit all seeing the same surgeon and anaethetist. We were all asked the same questions by the anaethetist - "Have you ever had a bad reaction to a general anaesthetic?"

The procedure itself didn't worry me (history of gyne investigations as long as your arm) but the prospect of general anaesthetic scared the living doody out of me.

As it happened the whole procedure was absolutely fine. Went out like a light and woke up (it felt like 20 seconds later) feeling fine. Couple of hours later was sent home. Felt like a bag of spanners for the rest of the evening, but that was the aftermath of the general anaesthetic. Most importantly only very mild period pains and a bit of spotting for the rest of that day and the following day. If I had been given a choice I would have plumped for a local anaesthetic.

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.
