advise please can i claim

well i was driving along a dual carriage way (within speed limit) heard a knocking sound looked in rear view mirror & my bumper flew off & disappeared over other cars- pulled onto hard shoulder but obviously couldt retrieve it- highway mainteanance got it from the road but it was damaged beyond repair- so my question is can i claim on my insurance for it- i dont know how or why it came off & thank god no-one was hurt as a result but really cant afford a new bumper etc..

    I doubt if insurance will cover it. I got a replacement bumper from a scrapyard for £50 and fitted myself

    The excess is probably more than the cost of replacing the bumper, and to be honest, having bits of your car fall off on a major road isn't the sort of thing you really want to tell anybody unless you really have to.

    have a look on ebay for a replacement bumper.
    you could possibly claim for accidental damage i suppose but excess and future rises in premiums will be a lot more than a 2nd hand bumper and fitting/painting

    thanks all, well i gave up on the insurance- bought a second hand bumper via 24/7 car parts in same colour as my car so all good- insurance excess was £100 bumper only cost £70 friend put it on for me so saved me in the long run.
