Critical Illness Cover - advice please!

Can any one give me some advice please. Last year Friends Provident eventually agreed to cover me at the cost of £46.00 permonth. They failed to collect my monthly payments and to be honest they had messed me around so much as to whether they were or weren't going to cover me I forgot all about it. I have now received a demand for a back payment of £560 for the years premium, which they admit they forgot to collect? I am not at all happy about having to pay this. Would I have been covered if I'd had to claim? They also state that I can spread the arrears over the next 6 months but they will not cover me until the 6 months is up? Am I within my rights not to pay this? I don't wish to take the policy up now.

You would have been covered which is why they are asking for back payment.

If you want cover with them still, then you have to pay it. Although you tell them you are not happy with their service and thought it had never started and that is why it wasnt being paid.

If you used an adviser, then they may be able to help you on this front.
I don't wish to take the policy up now.

If you apply elsewhere then you would, with most providers need to declare that FP cancelled the policy as one of the insurance questions is have you had insurance accepted on modified terms and they terminated it due to non payment. You can mention the error but the key thing is really the modfication to the terms of cover.

  • Thanks for that. So just to clarify, if I do not wish to take this policy up now am I liable for anything? Also just out of interest why are they saying then that they will not be "on-risk" until all the arrears are paid?
