I Am trying to get cover for both my brother & myself on a car & a van. What would be the best way of insuring ourselves; Separately & then named drivers on each others ploicies, 1 ploicy with 1 of us as a named driver on each vehicle. I am dreading trawling all the sites so any advise would be appreciated. The cover runs out at midnight so need to get new cover today.
Thanks

Do either of you have NCD available that is not already used on another policy.
If you ahve two lots of NCD you can used (not used elsewhere) then I would go for two policies as this maintains or builds 2 lots of NCDS.
You can get combined policies but there is no guarantee they will be cheaper and it's one lot of NCD which would be affected in the event of a claim.
But essentailly you need to get quotes.
My personal preference would be 2 serperate policies for reasons stated but if one policy is massively cheaper then clearly that will be the way to go.0 -
I have never had any joy with multiple car polices.
We currently have 5 different vehicles all insured on their own policies, including my daughter at 17, my wife and myself on various cars and a motorhome, with varying ncd, for less than £1400 a year.0 -
Slightly offtopic, how many multiple car policy providers are there?
Since using all no claims on 1 car would mean you would have to start with 0 on another, could you then combine them both for another car if the need arose and you decided to only have one ?Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

HSBC Credit Card - £2700 / £7500
AA Loans - (cleared £9700)0 -
You can't use "all your NCD on one car" if this comes from more than one policy issued for the same period. So if you have two cars each with 2 years bonus and move to one car you can't add them together to give you 4 years as far as I know.0

Ecar allow 4 drivers (age condition) and 4 cars.how many multiple car policy providers are there?
Downsides are:
It won't necessarily be cheaper than multiple policies.
You don't build serperate NCDs.
If there is a claim you lose on the one and only NCD.
They have quite poor reviews
Upsides are:
I use ebike and you can add drivers/cars on-line yourself (so you could for exmaple do it on a weekend rather than need to speak to someone).
To my knowledge if there is no manual intervention then they don't charge admin fees, only the premium changes.
Overall I don't think it's that good a deal, but it might suit someone who knew they would be changing cars/drivers.
BUT I think car and vans are different entities insruance wise.
You can have a car policy with 4 drivers/4 cars.
You can have a van policy with 4 drivers/4 vans.
You can have a bike policy with 4 riders/4 bikes.
But I don't think you can combine car/van/bike on one policy.
Carole Nash do have a "six wheel" policy to combine car & bike.
The same problem exists of one NCD, so unless it's much cheaper it's not going to be worthwhile.
But I think it's still fairly rare to insure different types of vehicle on the same policy and vans seem to be treated differently (with good reasons I guess as they tend to be used differently).0
