Replacement of fascia and guttering

Hi, could you help please.
I've had a quote to replace the fascia and guttering on my flat roofed kitchen.
It measures approx 5x3m. So we are talking approx 13m of length of fascia boards with the wood underneath being replaced also with plastic. Then approximately 5m of guttering along one side of the kitchen with a length of downpipe to the drain.
The guy has quoted us £450, he's a pretty good workman and very thorough and trustworthy as he has done work for my family previously. He's a carpenter not a upvc company.
Thanks for reading - is it a fair quote?

any quotation is fair given what the job entails.
Its never about what you wish to be done but rather more to do with how hard it is to do the job you want done.
For instance is there any special scafolding required, how high is the job. Very offten health and safty ruels apply adding a lot of expense to the job. Example are there any live electric cabels to work around. health and safty maintain you can not work with in 10 feet of any such cables when they are live.
Usualy gutter and fascia replacment inclueds removal of the first two rows is roof tiles or slates.
How to avoid this is to have plastic fascia put on over the existing old wooden fascia this is a common enough practise and saves alot of time and expense.
So when you are accepting a quotation the chap giving you the quote should explain what it is for, you can ask for this in writing. Very offten there are alot of hidden things you would not expect and they all add to the cost.
A fair quotation and a cheap quotation there is a huge difference cheap offten means corners will get cut or quality of service may suffor. Only you can say if a quotation if fair but all ways ask questions before accepting.
Health and safty rules governing working at hight is basicaly this.
You can use ladders if there is no safer alternitive available. In your case I would say the use of scafold is a viable altranitive to ladders. If I turned up and you ask me to do a quick fix to your guttering I could then justify the use of ladders.
I havent seen the job my self but to be honest it sounds a little cheap to me. I suspect there is no scafolding being used and it's being done off ladders.
Cheap is not allways good as health and safty corners are offten being cut to lower the cost.
Good Luck, I expect the chap will do a fine job. Some times the way forward is back. There are allways two sides to every story unless a third is added.

Thank you, it's single storey high. There are no tiles or slates to be removed as it is a flat felt roof. He is going to replace the wooden boards underneath as they have rotted slightly and replace them with upvc boards.0

We paid £800 for all of our wooden fascias replaced with upvc, guttering and fall pipes, this was on an end terrace including gable ends - so essentially three sides of the property.
We were pleased with that - it has made a huge difference to the appearance of our property really smartened it up as the wood was looking tatty and wornOPs so far £42,139

I don't think £450 is expensive - seems like a reasonable quote at first sight.
Kind Regards

In my opinion mate, that seems a bit steep. Hope all goes well0

A flat felt roof then I would opt for putting plastic over the old boards as disturbing the felt roof removing the old boards could damage the it.
Simply slide the new plastic over the old boards and under the edging of the felt then nail into place refit the guttering to the new plastic. Simples :j
Should you later opt of a fiber glass flat roof the edging would be made alot easier as well. The old boards will be fine under the plastic. Some times the way forward is back. There are allways two sides to every story unless a third is added.

I had the same work done on my 3 bed detached plus garage for £1000, took the man 2.5 days. He made a perfect job of it and worked hard, so I felt that I got good value for money.
I think £450 is Ok, provided he does a good job with good quality materials.0
