Hi All
I'm going to Edinburgh for 3 days, just wondering if any one had some suggestions on things to do.
Also we fancy doing a ghost tour - has anyone been on any good ones that they can recommend

Depends what you're into really. Definately a walk up calton hill, great view of Edinburgh from the top, a visit to The Shore area in Leith, nice bars and seafood restaurants (Edinburgh's 3 Michellin star restaurants down there too) and the King Wark, great gastropub. The Royal Yaucht Britannia is down this way aswell. Too many museums/galleries to speak of, the Nationals and the Fruitmarket and The Dean Gallery, most should be free entry......A walk down the Royal Mile, lots of tartan/cashmere shops, ye olde bars etc but worth a vivist, you'll be lucky too as most of the Festival tourists will be away so should be a bit quieter than it was a couple of weeks ago.
For something good to eat but also good value, any of The Dogs restaurants dogonline is the website I think, Bon Vivant in Thistle Street, they also do champagne at really good prices if you fancy a wee treat, The Saint bar and restaurant in Stockbridge, another lovely wee residental area with coffee shops, boutiques etc. The site won't let me post web links to these so you'll just have to google them. George Street tends to be where all the super bars are, overpriced and not value for money, food average so would tend to stay away from there, in Edinburgh only one place for genuinly good cocktails is Bramble hidden down off Hanover Street, on the corner of Queen Street...visit early in the afternoon as at night at the weekend it's rammed and noisy...it's won lots of awards for what they do and is run by a couple of local boys.
The only ghost tour I went on was pretty ropey but Mercat Tours are run by history uni folk so should be acurate in fact etc...
From this you'll see i'm mostly interested in food and drink but there you go....and again it really depends what your into but if you need any other info, let me know...Debt Free and Business Owner Wannabe

There are at least 3 ghost / terror type tours included in the Edinburgh Pass http://www.edinburgh.org/pass/attractions/ which is good value if you want to pack a lot of visits in (or even useful just to give you some ideas maybe).
Or have a look at a free walking tour: http://www.edinburghfreewalkingtours.com/.
Have a great time!0 -
Mary Kings Close on the Royal Mile is excellent and includes a ghost story. It is an original Edinburgh Close that was buried under foundations of the City Chambers for years.Well worth a visit.0

The best tour is the Witchery Murder and Mystery Tour always done in the dark and a lot of fun.

scottish parliament worth a visit0 -
Castle, Royal Scottish Academy, The National Gallery and Scottish Parliament. A ghost tour would also great for something a little less serious.Mmmm, doughnuts0

"scottish parliament worth a visit"
If everywhere else in Scotland were to be closed even then it would not be worth a visit.0 -
The edinburgh dungeon is good too as is the edinburgh bus tour and im sure the bus ticket gives you discounted entry into some attractions so maybe worth booking that 1st! Last time I got a free dessert in the hard rock cafe!Total DebtWas £4145.81now £0.000

Another vote for Mary King's Close, also the Blair St. vaults - any of the ghost tours are pretty good.
There's a Rebus tour as well, that covers locations from Ian Rankin's "Rebus" novels, well worth a look if you're into that sort of thing.
Another good place to spend some time is the Gorgie City Farm : gorgiecityfarm.org.uk - only 10-15 minutes on the bus from Princes Street.0 -
Try to get out to Leith to see the Royal Yacht Brittania. A great day out and a fascinating insight into Royal life and see the queen's bedroom0
