How do Royal mail get away with charging an additional £3.50 to obtain a signature on International signed for mail and then tell you they don't have to provide you with a signature as proof of delivery?

"They" dont deliver it is the problem. They hand it over to their equiv in the country it is being sent to and tell them it needs a signature. That company then comes back to them with a "yes its been signed for" (obviously getting tens of thousands per day from all over the world) and then they tell you it has been signed for.

For countries that dont have electronic signature systems like couriers here do they would have to get thousands of signature cards back and match them all up to the outgoing records... would cost a lot more than the £3.50

  • LMAO @ £30 compensation. I really REALLY hope you don't get it. You don't deserve it anyway, that's for sure.

Why not?? Items up to £32 sent International signed for are insured, so if an item worth £30 has gone missing why shouldn't RM pay up?

A read here suggests that Intl signed for 'is' signed for..

However, rather poorly if you then go into FAQ's it says this:

    1. Are all International Signed For items electronically tracked when they are delivered?
We track all International Signed For items until they leave the UK and then the item is handed over to the destination country's postal service as a priority item. However, we can’t track your International Signed For item all the way to delivery in every instance or always be able to provide a confirmation of delivery.

If that isn't confusing I don't know what is.

As I regularly send items overseas I never now use intl signed for, instead I just get a certificate of postage free from the Post office as that also insures my items up to £32. I don't give the RM any more money than I need to when even their own website is confused as to what my additional £3.50+ payment is paying for.

    Soo

You hare PAYING for this extra service. You should be able to get 100% proof its arrived. Can't you phone / write / email the other party and ask if it has arrived?
I know its a pain, but if it gives you peace of mind?
