Car Insurance for the unemployed

Looking for advice and tips for this.

My granddaughter's partner has been out of work for some time now but has finally got a place on a HGV driver's course which begins in a week or so. using the bus for an 8 am start is impossible so he would like to get his car back on the road.

Car is an old Fiesta...about 9 years I think and of little commercial value and I suggested he look for third party insurance but will the fact that he is unemployed be a major stumbling block to getting insurance ?

We are prepared to pay the insurance until he gets a job.

  • Being unemployed will not be huge problem, lets face it, its quite common these days. Its possible some companies may load for it but he will be able to get a quote. If he has just started a HGV course why dont you say he is now a student in full time education?

His 'education' is for about a fortnight :)

In fact before redundancy he was driving for a crash/breakdown recovery company - would it be in order to claim his occupation as a Class2 driver even though he hasn't got a job doing that at the moment ?

Is he claiming benefits. If not, house husband is a better option, unless he has a job lined up.
Wouldn't put down driver if he isn't one at the moment though.

Yes he's on benefits, - I told him to say he's unemployed - best to be straight about it.

Best quote so far is from Swinton £687.00 !!
