IE8 query- how to remove niggling search box

i cannot see how to turn this off?

very distracting, and I DONT WANT IT! so much for choice..
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)

    right click on the internet tool bar and untick the one you don't want.

  • tried that, doesnt seem to have that option.. am i looking in right place? (view tab>toolbars?)

    What search box where is actually the problem?
  • on my screen, trhere's the normal(?) URL address box, with a google search box next to it.. each take up half the row..

    Perhaps you can make a screenshot, so we can see exactly what it is that you are referring.

    Print Screen(PrtScr) > Open Paint > Paste > Save as JPEG > Upload to Imgshack > image100b.jpg > Copy and paste Direct link from ImgShack.

    Hide and Remove IE Search Box via Group Policy Editor
    1. Run Local Group Policy Editor (GPEdit.msc).
    2. Navigate to Local Computer Policy -> User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer.
    3. In the settings list in the right pane, locate and double click on Prevent Internet Explorer search box from displaying option. Set its value to Enabled.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Close and re-open IE browser.
    6. To re-enable and re-display the search box, set the value to Not Configured or Disabled.

    point your mouse between the search bar and google bar and then move to your hearts content!
