Tax credits :Child staying on but money cut !

Hi, I know a lot of people are in the same boat but I have not been able to get through to the Tax Credit helpline find out what is going on money wise.. my son has stayed on into 6th form ( which I told them back in May !) last friday I found my CTC down £50, if I'd have known it was to happen that would be ok but no, I was told my payments for him would continue as normal.
I read somewhere that some people got a payment today, not me though, someone else said the missing payment will be spread out, like 2p a week !?!
Can anyone who has managed to get through to tell me what to expect tomorrow (Friday being the day I get my WTC & CTC ) will it still be down £50 and what is going to happen about last weeks missing payment ?
Thanks in advance.

My son is staying on in 6th form and last week I too had it cut by £40. I got a payment today which was up by £9 on my normal amount so I think they are spreading it out as it wasnt up by £40 but then again its up by £9 so should only be spread over 4 wks unless I was owed more money - have tried phoning to find out but like everyone else I cant get through!!!!0

Thank you for your reply, hopefully mine will be there tomorrow then !
What a stupid system though, why could they not just send a letter out explaining what will happen instead of allowing this confusion and worry ?0 -

Your 10/11 award notice, which should have been sent to you after you did your annual declaration, would have shown that your tax credits for your child would cease on 31/08/2010.
TCO always ask you to contact them near the start of the new school year because the nature of education is that children do not always get the exam results that they expect and so not all of them get returning to education like they had planned.
Use the number Lindy-Loo suggested or try using one of the free phones in your local HMRC enquiry centre. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi, still haven't received any 'extra' payment like some others here. I wonder if anyone here knows, do different regional authorities use different methods for paying back the 'missing' money? I.e. some repay in a lump sum while others recalculate for the year? I have just had to ask my landlord to wait for the rent, they are not happy at all, and with no assured tenancy, they could give me two months' notice tomorrow if they felt like it. Why couldn't the benefits people have just put an extra sentence in the award letter, that if your child was staying on, your 'missing' money would be paid ..this way...?
It'll take months to catch up that one weeks' money.0 -
My point exactly.
Yes Pam, I did get that notice you are talking about saying the payment would cease and so rang them up and told them he was staying on and was told "ok thats fine there will be no change to your payments " so why tell us all that if they are indeed going to stop and recalculate ?
My payment was in today as normal with an extra £10.0
