OK guys short story. Received a cold call about an hour ago, Indian type call centre asking about computer maintance. As I'd been running slow for some time and had put a call into Windows and my anti-virus software people Vipre I wasn't to sure if it was these guys calling back. Give me a line that sounded reasonable.

The upshot was that this guy got me to preform so work on the computer and there were a number of files that came up with warning signs etc beside them. Then came the sales pitch and this is the bit that worries me.

When I logged into the site he gave me it was a company called logmein123.com wanted me to talk to a technican who would help clean me up, put him off said I be busy to 2.00pm.

Anybody know of this company, is this a spam

the website address is https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/Customer/Code.aspx

Expecting him to call back at two would appreciate a quick response

Do NOT use this. It is a scam which will soon part you from £89 every month. I can almost guarantee you that he asked you to open the prefetch folder and told you there were loads of virus and trojans in it. If he calls back, just tell him to **** off.

Logmein123.com will allow them remote access to your PC where they can do anything they like generally. Under no circumstances agree to this. If you are having issues with your PC, you can post more details here and you will be told how to resolve the issues for free.

agreed complete scam, they will no doubt ask you to visit a website and install a certain peice of software which will help them fix you computer remotely, this is in itself a virus which will disable your own security making you more vunrable on top of charging you for the privelage

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

Definately a scam and it's been on here before i think. I spent ages looking at it on google because it seemed pretty clever and exactly the sort of thing I can see people being conned for.

  • logmein is a great tool, i use it quite often, but in this case it's being used by a scamming company, I'd certainly not allow them access to my computers.
As he's had you doing thigs yourself on the pc..maybe downloading files to test? I'd be running a full antivirus/malware sweep, using known good applications (ie not ones he reccommened, but the ones recommenced on this board daily)

  • 100% scam I always like to have a little fun with calls such as these.... ask them which computer as you dont have one etc etc....
