Sounds to me as though she is not getting enough sleep? Does she have late nights watching TV/Playing games etc?
She needs around 10 hrs sleep per night to eradicate those brown dark areas of the eyes.

Thanks but this is the sort of comment she gets from school, she gets enough sleep, believe me, typical 14yr old, and ive already said,it LOOKS like bags, but its actually bluey veins under her eyes, thats why we need a good, but very lightweight, concealer.

It sounds like she has the same problem as me. I've had under eye circles and a prominent blue vein for as long as I can remember. It's because I'm very pale with thinner skin under my eyes than most people, and I expect this may be her problem too.

I've always used Rimmel 'Hide the Blemish' concealer in Ivory. It's not that thick, I just dab a bit on my finger and then apply it on the visible vein. I then use a little bit of Natural Collection tinted moisturer in Fair over the entire under eye. To keep it all in place I use Laura Geller Balance n Brighten powder.

It sounds a lot but it's just become routine now, and it doesn't take very long to put on. The tinted moisturiser and powder has been a god send because they are a lot lighter than the foundation I used to slather on.
  • I've a young daughter with this problem. She's now 20 but I've had to occasionally cover her dark circles since she was 9. It started when she got tonsillitis 3 times within 6 mos, and they would look worse at any time her body seemed to be under stress. She also gets occasional excema and had a few minor allergies when she was a baby.

DD uses a Simple eye cream, and uses Rimmel liquid concealor hide the blemish over that. Some people say dark circles are just inherited, my Gillian McKeith book says its some sign of allergies and possible kidney problems - I'm not sure, but what we do know is her dark circles are alot less noticeable when she sleeps minimum 8 hours a night, avoids caffiene, and if it gets very bad she will cut out dairy products too for a few days. On top of this she was prescribed iron supplements as she's aneamic, the dark circles definitely show up more when she forgets to take them. Stress also plays a part - we know when shes had a fight with the BF or is worried about exams, its the first thing that shows up!

If you have any of Bobbi Brown's makeup books in your local library I'd recommend borrowing them - she gives a whole class on covering dark circles.

Not quite the same as your DD but I get dark circles when I am tired. Not puffy like bags, just a very dark shadow. I use lemon aid from benefit which is a yellow tinted cream cover. It is very light but covers well. I don't wear make up in the day as I don't have the time to put it on before my DD's get me up, so just needed something I could blend well with my skin tone just using moisturiser. If you go to a debenhams or boots or something you could go to a few counters, take a camera and see which results you like best before buying or else it could end up being an expensive quest for the perfect product.
  • I've started using Well Rested by Bare Escentuals and am really pleased with the results. With it being in powder form it is really light so it won't drag the skin or make the under eye area look heavy.

"Look well-rested no matter when you got to sleep! Brush on this ingenious product to illuminate and brighten the eye area....an excellent base because it evens out imperfections."

Failing that try one of their powder concealers, I'm using Summer Bisque.
  • HOw is her health otherwise? I had very pale skin and dark circles when I was younger. Mum took me to the doctors, he asked if my periods were heavy etc and I had a blood test to see if I was anaemic. Turns out I was anaemic. I've also got an underactive thyroid which can play havoc with everything. Maybe worth her seeing a dr just to rule out anaemia?

I too have very veiny eyes, lots of thin red ones on my eyelid, and big blue ones underneath! Very attractive :(

I use a creamy concealer first (the clinique airbrush pen is good), then a thin layer of Bare Escentuals Bisque powder on top to give a more natural finish. I find on its own it doesn't give quite enough coverage.
  • Try the Aldi under eye concealer. As a side note, try getting her to put slices of raw potato under her eyes for 10 minutes at a time - they contain a lot of potassium which helps with dark circles, it's what's in a lot of expensive eye creams!
