Should we believe a word our EA's saying?

We sold out house back in July to FTBs and must be close to exchanging now. Our EA keeps phoning and giving us dates to exchange saying "the buyers want to exchange by xxx and need you out of the house by 12pm on xxx." These exchange dates keep coming and going we have no idea where the EA is getting his info from - we've had no confirmation of any dates yet from our solicitor and think its highly unlikely we'll exchange as quickly as the EA is saying - there is a (very) minor issue with the fensa/corgi certficates which will set us back at least another few days.
Is it normal for EA's to keep badgering us with dates like this? I thought it was usually the solicitor who informed us of exchange/completion dates?

The EA should be working for you, not the buyer. However, the EA won't get their commission unless contracts are exchanged. Tell the EA the dates for exchange/completion that are convenient for you."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Hi AppleCore, the EA is badgering you so that they can get their hands on their commission asap. Once you complete, they get the money. Next time they call, ask them to contact your solicitor rather than yourself, as s/he will be in a better position to advise when exchange/completion can happen. Then, get your solicitor to fend them off for you till you're ready

It's just the EA being pushy, also they tend to get a bit nervous if things look (to them) like they aren't moving along, as they don't get their commission till the deal is done.
Either ignore there calls or tell them firmly its in the hands of the solicitors and the dates will be set when everything is in place.0 -
Thanks for the replies, this has confirmed what I was thinking. I've just had a call from the EA to say that they need us to have moved out by noon on Friday 1st October - where on earth has he got this date from? My partner's panicing and organising removals but I presume we shouldn't rush into anything until we've had a call from the solicitor?0

Yes, ignore whatever dates the EA is giving you, it is your solicitor who will discuss the appropriate exchange/completion dates with you. Since the EA has been feeding you several dates anyway, there is no point paying attention to them.

Do not book anything like removal companies until you have exchanged!0
