Hotel Recommendations in Wan Chai, Hong Kong

Myself and my partner will be in Wan Chai from 4-8 October after visiting a friend there and need a nice, cheap hotel to stay at. Does anyone have any experience of going to Wan Chai?
Also is there anything we definitely have to do whilst in Hong Kong? We'll be there for 3 weeks so should have plenty of time to see all the sights!

That area used to be a pub, club, girly bar, bit of a red light area if you know what i mean but perfectly safe.
A long time since i was there so might have changed but wouldn't bet on it.
A better bet for a hotel would be Causeway Bay area a short walk from Wan Chai you will find good hotels there.
There was a regular ferry similar to Star Ferry crossing from there to Kowloon
You will get some ideas from these links.

Recommandation hotel no.2
Caritas Oswald Cheung International House
Stayed there 7N back in may this summer, and highly recommanded. Paid (HKD 380/N) budget 3***hotel price and enjoyed 5***** hotel comfort, spaceous room with superior cleanliness.
It located in Aberdeen and only takes about 10mins to Wan Chai via poll tunnel by bus.
Pro : airport express bus stopping nearby directly from airport (costs GBP2.5)
Con: no swimming pool

Sorry, I can't help with a hotel in Wan Chai or cheap hotels. We were there at Easter and stayed 3 nights in the Royal Garden, Kowloon - booked through Priceline Name Your Price, 1 night in Macau - Holiday Inn - booked through the ICH Friends & Family link - see separate thread in this forum, and 6 nights in the Crowne Plaza in Causeway Bay - booked through the ICH Friends & Family link. (It might be worth seeing what other hotels are available through this link.)
Other things to consider doing in addition to Xegec's suggestions are:
Nan Lian Garden & Chi Lin Nunnery
Take the ferry to Lamma Island
Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery
Take the ferry to Cheng Chau Island
Go horse-racing on a Wedesday evening (if it's still on in October)
Before going on to Stanley we did a stunning walk around Tai Tim Country Park - http://www.hongkongextras.com/_tai-tam-waterworks_heritage_trail.html
You will find lots of useful info over on Tripadvisor - Hong Kong Things to Do & also the Hong Kong Forum.0 -
Thank you for all your helpful posts! In the end we booked the Cosmopolitan hotel as British Airways had a good deal on and it ranked highly on TripAdvisor.
We'll definitely try to do everything you've suggested! I can't wait.0 -

never come back
I was staying there for three days, and i must say that i will never come back.
The thing is that that all standard rooms face the cemetery which is located just the opposite the hotel. That's why the windows are from opal glass and you feel like in aquarium. The receptionists are rude and never smile. The location is o.k. They provide shuttle buses, but it's always full.
Besides that they reserve money for staying from my credit card, i have paid cash, and it's almost one month have passed, but they haven't cancelled this reservation.
I would never come back there!!!
