Why do you ask? Do you have a need for the money now or will you likely need it in the foreseeable future? If the question is based on whether anyone thinks they are going to go up or down in value in the future, no one knows that. In the longer term I personally think it is likely that they will go up as the economy hopefully recovers, but there's no certainty of this. In the shorter term it would only take some negative news to come out of Europe or elsewhere to send them lower, but for the time being markets are generally positive. Its up to you to decide whether you are comfortable with the risks in the hope of getting a higher return than you could get on cash in the longer term. If you are not sure see an IFA. If this is the right one, looks like they are currently around the £10 a share mark..

I wonder how long you have held your shares.

Fidelity European Values PLC was launched in 1991 with no less than Anthony Bolton as manager, and for ten years it's performance was excellent. Since Bolton handed it on in 2002 and a further change of manager in 2008, it's performance has been far less impressive.

For what it's worth, I invested at launch in 1991 and added to my holding in the early years, but more recently have taken my profit and sold most of it.

  • I too am a long term holder of FEV, lured in by Bolton's record, but due to the underperformance over recent years, I am looking to exit in the near future. Just waiting (and hoping) for the current discount (16%) to narrow a bit.
