I think you get an extra premium for doing 30 hours or more when your a single person with kids.
I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along soon to say wether this is correct or not :D
  • I was wondering f that was the case, tried ringing tax credits but guess what?????? correct can't get through lol.:j

AFAIR and without looking it up, the 30hr element is £500 a year.

  • Hello,

It might be better all around if you upped your hours to 40 per week (full time). Failing that took on a 2nd job seeing you only have 2 children of 11 & 15 and one adult child now.

You would probably loose some of the benefits (and they are going to be cut in the future anyway) but you would be free to work the hours you choose and get extra money in seeing as its going to be coming up to Christmas.

Hi there, I have always worked from the age of 16, 7 years ago I was working 2 jobs up until may this year paying stupid amounts of basic rate tax and due to not having much time to spend watching my children grow up and other family circumstances I decided to finish 1 of my jobs and have more family time. Im just enquiring if by working an extra 2 hours per week will it be worthwhile, it will in respect of taking the place of the child benifit I am no longer getting for my 18 year old but will it decrease my tax credits to zilch?

No as you get an extra premium if you work 30+ hours on your tax credits.

    Put details in here: http://taxcredits.hmrc.gov.uk/Qualify/DIQHousehold.aspx
