Wasn't there a way to send a txt message to a DQ service and they txt back the number you wanted. I thought it worked out cheaper, I could be wrong though?
Also, Martin mentioned using WAP on the phone to do it for free, I always thought you mobile company charged for using WAP. Anyway, how do you know if WAP is free on your tarrif, or even how to configure set it up. Thanks in adv.
  • Just tried the WAP address in the article - It didn't work - is this temporary or has it gone. If so has it moved address or has it gone?
  • Hi,

The new wap address for BT directory enquiries is wap.thephonebook.com
and has now been updated in the article.

It is not always convenient and not as quick but if you are on the web and want to find a number free I use https://www.118118.com which is completely free! Obviously if the number is ex-directory you cannot get it.

BT Directory Enquiries on your PC: https://www.thephonebook.com
BT Directory Enquiries on your mobile: wap.thephonebook.com

If you go to Say no to 0870 put 118333 (the number for 3 Directory Enquiries) into the Number search box on the search page, it will provide a 0161 number that goes straight through to an operator, and all for the price of a normal geographical call! ;)

Yes and as the result of people spreading that number around. it will no doubt get cut off just like the 0800 loophole was before.;)
