I have found that Avast Boot-time scan facility only works with 32bit systems. I have Win7 Home Premium.
Is there a dodge to make a 64 bit computer appear temprarily to Avast as a32bit one, or another free virus checker that has the required scan facility compatible with 64bit?

The boot-time scanner is an expert feature, and was designed to be used when there’s something bad going on on the system.
Are you an expert?

Tricking it won't work as the software actually requires 32bit!
Apparently a 64bit version is coming though: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=63113.0
You might be able to use one of the boot/recovery CDs to run a virus scan though

why do you need to use a boot time scanner? Windows 7 64bit cannot get a rootkit virus0

Define an expert; well perhaps I am not one, just an ordinary guy.The boot-time scanner is an expert feature, and was designed to be used when there’s something bad going on on the system.
