Paying for a holiday apartment in full in advance

I'm booking an apartment for a week in Italy next month. They're asking for full payment in advance to confirm my reservation. They also want a 150 euro cash desposit on arrival in case of breakages.
Is it unusual to have to pay in full in advance for a holiday apartment?

No, it's not unusual at all. Neither is the cash deposit, you should get that back on your last day when they come to see the apartment.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Just make sure the people you are paying are for real, my friend got scammed by one in New York. Also if you can pay by your credit card for protection.0

This is normal, balance is normally due 6-8 weeks before arrival. As it's next month then you fall into this timeline.
As mentioned, do background checks into the rental. Is it private or through an agency?
What does the booking contract say about damage deposits?0
