Bank Statements

I've noticed over the last couple of months what i believe to be a clever little scam by the banks and was interested if it was just me or if it may be a legitimate thing they do.
When reviewing my bank statement on line i noticed that for a particular date my wages had been payed into my account (the day being the correct date for payment) and no other payment for that day, i then log off feeling very happy that i've been payed. However, when i log on the following day i find that the statement shows new payments/direct debits/standing orders now appearing on the same day that my wages had been payed in but before my wages have been shown, this then shows i have gone overdrawn.
Is this a normal practice or just me?

Have you been charged because of this?
I think that for most banks they use credits first and then debits for working out balances.0 -
This happens to me also. But when paper statements arrive it is shown as wages going in and the debits coming out... I don't get charged for this and hope you don't either
:heartpuls CG :heartpulsEver wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
I looked at my HSBC statements and saw that sometimes it is credits sometimes debits first for a day's postings. The only balance shown for a day is the final one. Unless things have changed immensely all balances are as at end of business dor thet day.0

I work for a bank. i get paidf on 23rd of the month.
When I get my bank statement it often says 22nd - i could not access it then though.
Debits are often processed before credits0 -
regularsaver1 I'm confused! (Easily done I know)
You say that you get paid on 23rd but statement shows credit as 22nd so when do the debits on your account show 23rd or 22nd??
As others have said it does not matter how transactions appear on the statement but the balance on the cut off point for that date.0 -
ok sorry my post was a load of gibberish
for me my debits do not come out pay day anyhow
i just don't know why it shows as 22nd on bank statement when i get paid by bacs on 23rd of month - accept if it falls on weekend0
