hi.

i didnt even know how to title this thread so hope i explain clearly.

i want a twin cordless home phone set.

i dont really need caller ID as such (monthly charge) BUT would like to be able to see who is calling from my list of stored numbers.

so in summary. if i have "Frank 01234 567890" stored i would like the display to show either the stored name or number, it doesnt really matter.

i realise if a complete stranger rings then i wouldnt see the number calling me, thats fine.

i have bought the cheapest Argos pack that does have caller ID but doesnt seem to show stored numbers when receiving a call.

does such a thing exist?

thank you.

As far as I am aware, you cannot see incoming numbers unless you have the caller ID service provided by the telephony company (either free or charged for).
    I have no signature.

You will need to be subscribed to caller ID for that. Even if you have numbers stored in your phone, without caller ID, the phone can't detect which number is calling you, so can't match it up.

Caller ID is free with BT if you ask for Privacy at Home.

Sorry, but the feature you've just described *is* Caller ID, so you will definitely need the Caller ID service enabling. It's irrelevant that you have names/numbers stored on your handset, since it is Caller ID that supplies the actual number during an incoming call. I think there is a misunderstanding here.

As pointed out, if you research into BT's caller privacy initiative, you'll find out that you can get Caller ID free as part of that.
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

It's free with IDNet as well, and only a 30 day contract.
