How much for internal doors and fitting??

How much do you think the following would cost?

7 possibly 8 at the max internal white doors, nothing fancy just standard panel doors.

Delivered, fitted - door handles the lot and also old ones taken away?

Really need to kit the house out with new doors as they are all badly painted, they won't shut properly and just ancient really! So just wondering how much roughly it'd cost and also how long it would take to do....

  • Around £70 a door, slightly more for metric sizes, including basic hardware. A good chippy will hang them in a day assuming there's no alterations required to the frames etc,

You may have to dispose of the old ones yourself, labour prices can vary depending in which part of the country you live in.

I run a Maintenance Company and do a lot of door fitting. Eco friendly is right - £70 - £80 / door is about on the mark. I would be very reluctamt to agree to take the old ones away though. Waste disposal is my biggest headache. You would probably be better off asking the council to take them. (Normally a small fee charged). Or if your chippy can cut them up, maybe put them in the boot of your car and take them to your local tip.

  • If doors are painted badly no doubt the frames will be too so they will probably have to be prepared and painted by you prior to the new doors being hung.

If you have a saw, a plane and a couple of decent chisels then hanging doors isn't a big deal.

I personally would not attempt to hang it myself, you plane a bit too much and you can't put it back.

Just to give you an idea about the cost involve.

Our Oak Veneer doors were around £72 from Focus in one of their %25 off weekend specials with free delivery.

As to door furniture, the world is your oyster. The net is full of ironmongers selling their wares, we bought Yale handles and mortices in a big discount box for around £100 but you can get it cheaper if you search.

Got a big pack of stainless ball bearinf hinges which cost about £25

Then you need some varnish or stain, a 2.5 litre tin of clear varnish is around the £15-£30 depends on the make.

Fitting was £30 per door on both levels of the house and took the joiner two days for 7 doors (he is a bit of of a perfectionist so took him a tad longer), the finish is amazingly good and all we need now is some door stops.

The total was just above £800

i am a joiner to trade, the white panel doors are approx £30 per door and a decent door handle and hinge set can be had for a tenner, total £40 quid per door ,i usually charge £30 per door i hang, but for 8 doors i would probably price it as a job and charge £200 all in,also i would buy the doors and handle sets to save you a little bit more.....so all in i would say about £500 that would include the discount i would get from my timber merchant...but i agree with other posters i wouldnt take the old doors away as it costs a fortune to dump stuff...cheaper doing it your self
