Help again sorry!

Another item i had listed ended today.

Sold for quite a bit less than what it was worth but still for a decent amount which I am happy to accept for it, on looking at the winning bidders feedback it appears they buy to sell on, of baby items with turn around on them being only about a week!

Anyway it was listed as collection only, listing clearly stated item to be collected by Friday as it was in the way.

I contacted the buyer after not hearing anything for 8+ hours. They have replied asking if they can collect on Monday and they are wanting to pay via paypal.

Alarm bells are ringing am i right in thinking that if they pay via paypal and then put a claim in i dont have a leg to stand on as i have no proof of delivery etc.

Or am i getting it confused somewhere?

  • You seem to be right, unfortunately with paypal being compulsory I can't think of away around this. Hopefully someone else will be able to.

No you are quite right, the paypal on collection scam is probably the most common scam going and nursery items are a highly scammed area. However , you can't refuse paypal so there is no way out of this situation unless you cna sweet talk th ebuyer into cash before he pays using paypal. If your buyer is buying and selling on the same account it probably means he has nothing to hide, so it is probably going to be OK.

  • Well i messaged the buyer back and said that I wasn't happy to risk that but if they wanted to do a bank transfer then I would accept that.

They came back with all sorts of excuses as to why I should accept paypal and not bank transfer and their attitude was pretty awful.

In the end they replied with 'Cant help but feel your trying to make it a little difficult as if you relist you will have to wait for auction to end and then get someone to collect but fair enough i have now tried two ways of completing this sale and your not happy with either so please feel free to relist.'

Im slightly annoyed over this as I really don't want to put myself at risk because I cant afford to lose the money. I have put in for a mutual cancellation which the buyer has since ignored, despite the fact they are online because they have sent me a message since i did it.

Just hoping they are not going to be awkward over it so that i don't get my FVF back :(

Soolin I did think that but the account is only a month old already on 98% and the items they have brought prior to mine have all been under £20 and all been collection only. That also made me slightly wary.

I have relisted it anyway just hope I dont have anymore problems!

I think asking for a bank transfer does rather look a bit 'scammy' if the buyer had beeen on here we would have suggested they walk away.

Hopefully the buyer will agree to the mutual so you can get your FVFs back, but remember to block them just in case.

Also, consider what you are going to do next time, what's to stop the next person paying by paypal. You'll end up with yet another set of wasted fees? Also, any winner remains eligible to leave you feedback.

Personally if this can't be posted I would consider selling it somewhere else.

  • See I only suggested bank transfer as an alternative to paypal because it was being collected anyway. Which means she would have had my address to collect so its not like I would have done one over £40! :rotfl:

What happens if the buyer ignores the mutual? Do I automatically get them back? I have already added them to my blocked bidders list.

I have never had a problem selling anything on collection only and everyone has always paid in cash on collection, the last one I had even travelled over 100 miles to come and collect which i was quite suprised at, im just hoping that the next buyer doesn't want to pay by paypal and I wont have another problem with it.

It is too big to be posted and would cost a silly amount it wouldn't be worth it. I have had it up for sale on various free ad sites including gumtree, viva street and preloved for over 2 weeks now.

If buyer ignores the mutual it closes in your favour, however they have 10 days (i think) to refuse it first.

Good that this is settled but you are likely to have problems in the future with collection only items. Buyers can insist on paying by Paypal and leave you open to being scammed if you accept or having NPS claims if you refuse to sell.
