Cooking from scratch and baking definitely helps. Is your husband supportive?
Going for walks and to the park will give you a break away from the house. Young children don't need a lot spending on them. Look on the internet for free places to go in your area. Lots of museums are free and aren't the dusty dull places that you may imagine them to be.

Christmas will be a challenge but there is a thread on here about preparing for Christmas the old style way and there is a special occasions board with loads of ideas on.

Keep posting and let us know how you get on.

OP I know that it isn't a lot but if you use the internet to watch tv, after it's been shown, you don't need a license, that's £12 a month I think.
Stock up on board games either from freecycle pound shops, ebay etc. Most kids would rather do that on a regular basis than expensive days out. It gives you a chance to chat as well, something that isn't possible when you're either watching tv or at an amusement park.
My daughter & I used to have indoor picnics in bad weather, we'd make a tent from blankets & the clothes airer. We even went camping overnight quite regularly in the lounge. Great fun & free.
missychrissy, I find myself now planning the dog walks to pass allotments just so that I can stand & admire all the lovely stuff they're growing.

Don't forget that you can make great soup boiling the roast chicken carcass, carrot, onion,2 chicken stock cubes and a little barley.(optional).Fill up with a couple of slices of cheap bread/toast.:)
• Did you find any of the answers helpful, OP?

As this isn't an Old Style topic, I'll move it to the budgeting board :)

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
