Indoor Bamboo - urgent help needed please!

Hi there,

We have had bamboo stalks in a couple of vases for 6 years since our wedding and they have always been fine, we change the water weekly and generally don't have too much sunlight on them.

They used to be kept in transparent glass vases but I changed them to darker ceramic ones 2 months ago, which I thought given that they don't like sunlight would be ok.

We've now noticed some light mould, and one of the stalks is soft and will have to be thrown away... another is starting to yellow mid way up the stalk.

I'm worried that if we don't do something immediately these will die and I don't know what to do!

We've changed them to a clear vase for now and put them in a darker area of the house...

Is there anything else we can do - something we might have around that would do as 'bamboo food'?

Many thanks for any suggestions :TI wouldn't be so worried normally but we have had them so many years...

I don't know about indoor bamboo but the various bamboo plants in our garden like nitrogen-rich plant food. Normally liquid grass food is a good choice.

What type of bamboo is it ? It may be a good idea to give more details or supply a photo to see if anyone has experienced this exact problem.

    Thanks

  • Thanks Gavin, these are just stalks of green bamboo, the kind you buy in Habitat as decorative plants, they are thicker than the sort you might have in your garden I think.
Each bamboo cane has its own root and they are normally happy in the vase with water around a third of the way up, there are around 5 stalks per vase and we have 2 vases...
