Limited company dissolved receives bill.

Received a statement from HMRC saying that a limited company I ran years ago owed £1200 in fines for late or failure to submit paye forms from 4 years ago.
The company was dissolved 3 or 4 years back.
Who, if anyone is liable or should I just phone them and say "the company no longer exists"
When the company was dissolved the HMRC had made no demand for payments or the forms they believe were missing or late.
Seems they dug this technicality up recently as the date of issue for the demand stated no interest was due.

The company is liable. I would write and tell them - in theory they normally raise objections when the company is in the process of being dissolved - the PAYE scheme shoud have been cancelled but this is probably academic now. Quick reaction from them 3/4 years later!! PS: Were a/c to cessation filed?shaven-monkey wrote: »Received a statement from HMRC saying that a limited company I ran years ago owed £1200 in fines for late or failure to submit paye forms from 4 years ago.

Accounts were submitted to companies house... they sent me a letter saying all was done."Gold is the money of kings; silver is the money of gentlemen; barter is the money of peasants; but debt is the money of slaves." - Norm Franz0 -
Just tell the tax office when the co was struck off - you probably didn't tell the PAYE office when you ceased - the HMRC departments don't exchange routine information - you have to tell each separately. When they know, they'll update their records and you'll hear no more (asssuming that you submitted all returns at the time including final period employers annual return and have paid all taxes due).0

The gent at HMRC suggested that I would be personally liable for the fine...
I said this would not be the case as the company was dead and the directorship positions were dead.
He then said there had been a mistake at their end and I should disregard any further letters....
All a bit confusing really."Gold is the money of kings; silver is the money of gentlemen; barter is the money of peasants; but debt is the money of slaves." - Norm Franz0 -
