echo wrote:first passports DO take longer cos as soon as they receive the application they send out a form to be signed by a doc/dentist to show where you've lived for the last 3 yrs.daughter applied the day before me and she's bin waiting for her doc to sign the form then she's sending it to me so i can get the dentist to sign it.her former doc won't.she's not planning on going away but didnt want the hassle of travelling miles for the interview.
To my knowledge my OH never had anything sent out to doc/dentist. You supply details such as NI number, etc of whatever they ask for on the supplementary form and then it is checked against various databases with various linked agencies (such as DWP). I have never heard of the Doctor thing before. Certainly my OH has never been to the doc in the time I have known him and since changing address he hasn't notified the health centre so how on earth can a Doctor confirm it? I would have thought the Votors Roll and the NI stuff/tax etc would be far more reliable??"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Ah, that maybe explains it aswell. I always wondered which Voters Roll version these places get as I always tick the box every year when the forms come out so that I am not on the edited version that absolutely anyone can get their hands on. I would hope that PP agency would get the full one tho!!!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Can someone clarify the "Iris scan" comment made above.
I can't see how decent Iris scans can be taken from a photo - especially as they can be digitally manipulated.

Not sure about the iris scan thingy from the picture, I wud have thought that would only be able to happen if you were actually there (like on entering the US now - think thats what they do when they do ur pic but not 100% sure).
Incidentally the biometric chips and all the new security features have been introduced to help reduce fraudulently altering and forging passport.......was hearing today that hackers are already finding their way around it and managing to alter the chips!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

So can I assume that if I apply tomorrow I shall definatley get a biometric one. The passport site states they cannot ensure a biometric will be issued if applied for before end October. I travel to the state often and really need a biometric one.
Any advice very welcome.Josey0 -
No guarantees on the biometric one but you stand a very good chance of one.
I assume you need a new one right now as I don't think it would make a great deal of difference for entry to the US though, unless they change their Waiver rules again.0
