Having seen many of this type of new build home advertised, I would be grateful if anyone who owns one/has owned one could share their experiences of living in one, please.
Good or bad, but only if you have had the experience, please.

Thanks for that - I did do a search but got nowhere, probably because I spelt it as one word not two!
I'll have a trawl through but initial glance looks like loads of opinions rather than actual experiences.0 -
I owned one for a little over a year.
Surprisingly we had trouble with the buildings insurance. As the garages below were technically leased to other plots the insuers stated that any damaged caused by us were covered but if anyone else damaged the garages then they were not covered. Most bizaare. Changed insurers in the end but something we didn't expect.
Occasionally heard the garge doors opening first thing in the morning, and the floor always felt cold. Other than that just like a normal house. Oh we had a utility room downstairs and an entrance hall, which was always freezing, in the deeps of winter despite the heating being on it was so cold felt strange walking up half a dozen steps to completely different temperature!0 -
am i right in thinking that these would have a flying freehold?0

Bad feng shui apparently.
I wouldn't - would concern me the potential for noise and nuisance.0 -
Our DD rented one and it was so cold. Minimum insulation in the floor was the culprit, cost her a fortune to heat so she soon moved on.0

Who were the builders please?0 -
I have just brought a new build coach house, moving in very shortly.
I think they can be great properties, depending on the build quality and the layout.
We have 4 garages underneath our property, 1 is ours, and the other 3 are leaseholds between us and the owners of the houses linked to the garages. It's a peppercorn rent though, so it basically makes no odds to us.
The leaseholds for the other garages state that they are not allowed to have electricity, water or any other power supply to them, as it would disrupt our quality of life if people were doing all their DIY below us all weekend. We on the other hand are having our washing machine down there, and have full electricity.
You have to consider if you will be happy to cope with the strange parking options, and be prepared to build good relationships with your neighbours, to help avoid parking disputes.
We are extremely lucky, as we have a very large garden attached to our coach house, access through the garage. This is quite unheard of for coach houses.
Home and buildings insurance can be complicated, as stated in a previous post- as you techinically have to insure the other garages, but then if something happens to the garage, only you can claim on the insurance to get it repaired. If someone else breaks a garage, and refuses to fix it you have to claim on YOUR insurance, even though it's not technically your garage in order to get it sorted.MFW 2010- £112,500 + 20% Equity Loan = £150,000 35 years
2013- £108,877.28 + 20% / current OP = 19 years :T
Target to be Shared Equity Free- 2016Target for holiday to Australia- 2014Currently training for a Commando Challenge- drop and give me 200 -

Sounds complicated.
Will you report back how you find the property over winter?
