PLEASE HELP!! Deposit paid but we changed our mind.....

Hi All,
Thanks for reading and I hope someone out there will be able to help me.
My girlfriend and I have been trying to buy our first house for nearly 7 months, and it is safe to say we have had a rough ride with 3 complete 'fall through's' to date.
At one point we thought the deal was 'in the bag', and so started to shop for a new bed. We found the perfect bed at Bensons for Beds and decided that although more expensive than we had hoped to pay, it was worth the extra investment as it would likely last in excess of 10 years or so.
Anyway, we paid a deposit of £270 with a remaining balance of £1047 to be paid prior to delivery.
Long story short......almost everything has gone against us and we lost the house we were so close to getting. We have since found another, and are once again close to completing, and this time everything seems to be going smoothly.
The problem is - if we get this house, we really cant afford to layout the extra £1047, and could do to get the £270 back as every penny is going to count.
What are my rights in this situation? I really do appreciate any help.......
Jamie

In my book you lose the deposit (many on here will argue otherwise but if you get into an argument it will probably cost you a lot of time and money)
But why not go and talk to them and explain the situation an ask if the deposit could be shifted to a cheaper bed or ask for a credit note.0 -
it all depends on the contract they signed ...In my book you lose the deposit (many on here will argue otherwise but if you get into an argument it will probably cost you a lot of time and money)

As above it depends on the contract, if, and its an if, there are no terms and conditions you have signed, you have a chance to get part of it back allowing for them to deduct losses.
But i agree that you should lose it in any circumstance, a deposit wouldnt be a deposit if you could simply take it backBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
You'll be entitled to the deposit back if you cancel Minus any of there costs which could be significant especially if the bed is made to custom order you could loose the entire deposit.0

Doesn't look promising for you, they don't have a very good reputation.0

Deposits are intended to protect companies against people changing their mind...0

tbh a deposit is designed to protect the company from scenarios like this anyway but aye it seems they're....pretty rubbish.
