  • Hi Persian star!

Thank you for the link and the support. I can see how moneysaving and paying off debts can become an obsession so totally understand your OCD comment! I can't wait for us to get paid at the end of the month to start paying off more than the minimum off our debt!

As for the food bill, I got some sainsbury's vouchers through this week where they give you £6 off when you spend £30. I am going to do the weekly shop with that tomorrow and aim to spend a max of £36 - then £30 with the voucher. That will be unheard of for us :o

    Off to play snowball :D

In the fight against uncontrolled spending perhaps the most important thing is writing a shopping list and sticking to it.
  • Hi Mrs Piglet

You've obviously had some fantastic advice about your SOA but thought I'd comment on your pet insurance as its a ridiculous amount each month! When my doberman and dalmatian were pups (about 2 yrs ago) my insurance came to about £12.00 per month and that was with Argos and More Than. Its worth looking around for as currently the price you are paying is far too high.

I have to agree with the above reference the pet insurance; that is a lot. Mine for my lovely yellow lab is £15 per month with More Than
But it may depend what breed they are?

Hello and thank you for all your help

Can't change mobile tariffs either and £40 is for calls abroad. Looking into reducing that somehow. Family don't have PCs so can't use skype :(

    Thanks very much.

    Hi there

You can set up a skype account which allows you to call mobiles and landlines in any country in the world for cheap rates! I used it to call my husbands mobile in the middle east from the UK and it cost 20 pence for half an hour which would be cheaper than your mobile! You can also text using skype!
    Hope this helps!xx

    Afternoon everyone.

I will look into Skype for calls and the pet insurance, thank you. Have postponed the shopping for food as having looked at the stock we have, we can do a few more days without buying more stuff, other than milk. Made bread earlier, cleaned the house, walked the pups and made risoto for lunch so feeling like I have achieved something today :)

Out with friends tonight, meal at their house and then theatre. I have a bottle of wine I can take and paid for the tickets a while back so they owe us their share. So, NSD and getting money in day :D

How nice it is to feel in control, here to it lasting
  • Do you have an Aldi or Lidl nearby that you could switch to for some of your shopping? Loads cheaper for milk, fruit/veg and amazing cold meats, wine, really good toiletries etc - you could save a small fortune just by shopping for these items alone.

We use Debenhams for our pet insurance and also got cash back via topcashback for doing it - we have a 14 month old pedigree and a 6 month old pedigree which cost us £20 per month for the two of them! When I looked in to pet insurance with Morethan and a fair few others, you had to pay an excess in the event of a claim and also 10% of the bill - with the Debenhams one, you just pay the excess!

I make a special trip to my local Aldi just for their toiletries and face creams, they're really good and very cheap!

You know, this is how I feel. I've just started my DF journey too and it feels so good to finally be in control of things going DOWN instead of every month thinking oh s&^t we're just putting more and more onto the cc and o/d. For me this is month 2 and the o/d's (I have 2) are nearly maxed out BUT I haven't put a single thing on the cc since the end of July and that is a MASSIVE achievment for me.:T

You will get there, as will I, we just have to learn where we were going wrong and realise that a budget is not a chore or something to be scared of, it's a necessity. Otherwise we end up in this mess again and that's NOT GOOD.

Good luck and I will follow your journey:)
