Yes, as long as they downloaded it from the official source.
  • This is safe its a media player to play DIVX encoded movies/films/clips etc. Its just another alternative to say, windows media player or Realtime player, totally safe, but might have a few ads pop up as its free so that usually comes with it!!

If you're worried, run a malwarebytes scan:

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

Download programme, install. Once programme is open, click on the UPDATE tab: CHECK FOR UPDATES. Then run a scan.
  • its good player to play movies but get the player from the official website and stable version.

Well delete it then ,for peace of mind. If you need a movie/music player get vlc which is well regarded on this site-from a source you trust.

Adobe flash is different from divx.

Flash - run online streaming videos

divx plays offline divx format videos.
Hi, thanks for reply. excuse my ignorance, never seen it before. So, it,s ok to download cosher, payed for videos, from cosher site, then use divx to view offline. Is that the gist of it?

DivX is a video format one of hundreds , its sort of a compressed version of your ordinary dvd . Takes up less space and is often used as a means of transferring movies over the internet due to smaller size . Movie on DVD size 4GB converted to DivX about 700MB
To view a dixX or Xvid video your PC requires the correct codecs to play the particular format .
VLC media player is the simple solution freeware and plays most formats .

You may have a TV/DVD player that also plays DivX as well as the standard DVd MPEG format.

DivX itself is safe but that does not mean that a downloaded video is safe DivX or any format or really any download . Must have is a decent antivirus program that is always updated and can be used to scan any download just in case .

I have a couple of hundred DivX videos all perfectly safe but my Kaspersky AV would pick any up that where infected .
