Does anyone know of any reputable (&reasonably priced) distance learning companies which offer courses in animal care / veterinary nursing?
Also if anyone has had any bad experiences with any particular distance learning company?
Thanks in advance

Hi
I am an Animal Welfare Lecturer so might be able to help.
When you search for Distance Learning, try and use a College or Uni rather than an independant course provider, not just because of the quality of the course contect is more reliable etc but for future employee's they will more likely want to see completion of an accredited course (BTEC, C&G)!
Vet Nursing is more difficult to do as Distance Learning as you will have to get a work placement for completion of the NVQ.
I think Morton Morrell College in Warks do a Distance Learning Vet Nurse BSc but you have to be a registered Vet nurse first.
Hope this helps!0 -
I really wouldn't recommend doing this as a distance learning course. As the little one pointed out, if done well it should be very hands on, and I reckon reading from a book, etc, is very different to experiencing things first hand.0

I already work as a receptionist at a veterinary clinic and I am involved in assisting the vet with surgeries etc, so I was looking for a course that would build my theoretical knowledge to complement the practical skills I am developing.0

The moreton morrell course started last week, and costs around £300 per module. You have to do a minimum of eight a year, and pay roughly every month excluding December and June, and maybe one other?
Are you working in a training practise? I'd try to take a veterinary nursing course, as you've got your foot in the door. That will be much more valuable!0 -

I agree about the training in the veterinary practice. Veterinary nursing is available as an apprenticeship so it may well be searching on the apprenticeship website for training providers and speaking to your current employer. Of course, all of this is likely to assume you are under 25 or fall into one of the other eligible categories.0
