However, I have come unstuck with changing the bulbs in the outside lights on the house (one front & one back) - the screws are rusted solid:(.

I've tried WD40 but no joy - any other ideas?

i've heard of people using cola to remove rust from car battery terminals, perhaps you could by a cheap bottle and apply with a tooth brush?

Confuzzled that's a great idea. I won't even need to buy a duvet cover as I bought too many when Argos had some incredubly cheap deals earlier in the year. One is especially nice quality and would be ideal for curtains. I have a sewing machine and lots of thread. I would just need heading tape and a fleece. The duvet is pinks and cream, so maybe a cream fleece. I now need to find some cheap fleeces in cream. Ikea is too far as the petrol would take way from any cost saving.

i bought my header tape from amazon it was cheap and arrived quickly! as for fleeces if you check the grabbit board they often have threads, i know tesco and asda seem to have them on offer frequently and argos recently had them for a good price too
  • Been lurking again. Thank you to the person who told us about screen wash that goes down to -65 bought one bottle I have 10 litres of ordinary in stock. I went to BHS and saw heat holders socks reduced. I didn't have enough money on me but they looked really cosy. Have now got 20 tins of beans in stock 3 cartons of passata on special at Mr M. Need to get salt and grit and make a comprehensive list of things still to do and buy. Enjoying reading everyones ideas. The screws on our coach light were rusted on. My husband sawed them off with a little saw and then tapped them out. Replaced them with stainless steel screws and a tiny dab of grease!

Leave WD40 to soak in overnight, then try again.

An impact screwdriver will shift it if you have one, if not some ideas here:

I have recently given away all my large amount of saddlery and horse stuff to a equestrian charity. I have known for many years that I will never realistically afford a horse again or have enough time. It was heart breaking parting with it all - even though I knew it went to a great cause. I am hoping to drop to job share in 5 years when I am 50 and at that point I want to get a Shetland pony. I used to breed them and miss them so much.

I don't have children - other than my Godchildren and they don't cost anywhere near as much - so my two boys are really my surrogates. I do wonder whether children would be cheaper sometimes though :D Everything from the hay to their feed is just getting so expensive again. That charity will really so very welcome that generous donation of your tack. What a lovely gesture. I don't know maybe, if you really feel the need, you might help out there every now and again, if you have a spare couple of hours or so. They are always on the lookout for people just to groom them and muck out the odd stable - it will give you that contact back with them and you will enjoy it. Look at this way, both you and the horse will benefit from it - and it won;t cost you anywhere near as much as owning one!

Wilkinsons have a 2 for 3.50 and one of the sets is brown and cream if thats any help/ I sneakily bought a set in blue today. Tho I already have 3 candlewick bedspreads 2 fleece blankets and I think a wool one somewhere i got on ebay the other year when someone predicted bad weather..(we never had it not like the Feb one the other yr)thought it best to gte more as the other week flatmate was making noises again about selling his flat to get out of debt and then we will be in a house share where we might actually need some form of heating etc.. :((

It was having my daughter 19 years ago that meant I had to give up my horses and ponies. I heard a radio programme about hay and straw prices and was quite shocked. Sadly the charity is about 45 miles away and I can't afford the time or petrol for anything other than an occaisional visit. The best moment was seeing a good quality saddle that I had only used 3 times go to a horse that desperately needed a new one. Way back in my student days, I worked in a saddlery and could see it was a good fit.

For now I will have to be content with walks through a lovely country estate close to my house. They breed shetland ponies and walking up there on a sunday morning is the highlight of my week :)

    Hi
I have had a panic attack about all this!!! Two things I really need advice on -1- I have a completely useless onpen fire with pathetic back boiler. Meant to heat up 3 radiators but doesnt get more than lukewarm and isnt even connected to water tank so have to have immersion on anyway. This year Im thinking I will just block the chimney and use my electric radiators. After all coal is £20 a bag and I used a bag in 10 days + electricity last year.
2 - I only have painted concrete on kitchen and living room floor - needless to say cold at the best of times. Am absolutely broke and some more (am on a DMP but its proving hard work) Any really thrifty ideas for having something warm on floor(pref washable too due to incontinent old dog)
debt free 2021 at current DMP rate[/COLOR] (probably be in an old peoples home by then)
