It's quite heavy but having the metal head will hopefully make it easier to cut through the ice that usually gets compacted once a couple of cars have gone up the drive (shared between 4 houses so can't always get it dug out before someone goes out/comes in)
Brilliant!!:T Thank you!!
I have 2 curtain poles bought for the back bedrooms and i think i will hit a CB to have a look for curtains!!:jIm going to be frugal:j:DIm going to be frugal:D;)Im going to be frugal;)Beetlejuice Beetlejuice...................:rotfl:0 -

If your kitchen's a lot bigger you could always have 2.
Excellent - a flying carpet :rotfl:
(sorry, couldn't resist and as I am feeling very low, it gave me a much needed smile)0 -
I spent all last winter trying to get coarse salt but always missed the supplies - but not this year - I got a huge bag today at the farmers supplies place and it should do me through most of the winter - its a relief to know that my paths will be clear.
Also got a few bits for the store cupbpard
didnt find any curtains in the charity shops but will keep looking - but got a good buy on a curtain pole for the spare room as there wasnt one in there at all.
well pleased with my first winter shopping trip!Peace will be mine
could do better - must try harder

I love this thread! Liking the idea of getting us all cosy and warm for winter (especially now it's all autumny outside
).
So thanks for inspiring me to:-
Get curtains sorted out for my bedroom (just a blind there ATM)
Arrange extra loft insulation.
Stock up store cupboards with non-perishables.
Check condition of wellies, spade, hot water bottles etc..
Look out for some flannellette sheets and fleecy throws.

Its been ages since I caught up with this thread but as the weather is really turning I think its time for me to get my act together and get prepped. Will need to start all over again this year as we have moved - the good thing is that we have bought this house so we can make more permanant changes.
New house is a modern (7 yr old) three storey - so in theory should be quite efficient, it is considerably warmer than the last place and is consistently 6 degrees warmer without any heating at all.
Priorities I can think of at the moment are:
Buy fleece linings for curtains -
Fit curtains in kitchen/dining room - its two big french doors so its going to be a big job
Buy good mat for hallway to stop water being trekked into house
have boiler checked
Paint fence and both sheds -
Buy bike shed
Flannelette sheets for the kids rooms
have got a full bag of rock salt in shed ready for snow/ice and we have snow shovel from last house although I will have to locate it.
The list seems daunting and expensive but I am going to have a go at it anyway - thankfully our gas and electric DD have been halved since moving and we are using much less of both already so with a bit of planning and winter proofing we may well get them down more.0 -
what a lovely day - got curtains through today and my order of food has now been dispatched so getting there. Anyone know if we are expecting any more summer weather or are we guessing that autumn is making an early appearance. Got stew and dumplings tonight for dinner - such a summer dinner!Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Well today I have splurged and got my dining table. It is a one off expense though which now means not only do I have somewhere we can sit and eat but also a bit of extra space so I can do a bit more baking and preparing to make full use of my cooker when its on as I only had one small worktop before that was free. Plus if I'm baking or working in the kitchen Ben will be able to sit there and do his homework as well to keep warm.
Also means I should be better off again next month as I wont have a one off expense.
So Im thinking I'll put £80 into a savings account or into the credit union, and then use the remaining £50 that I would have and any overtime payments to make a start on winter preparations.-
I need to get curtains for the front and back door sorted out fairly soon as Im noticing the chill there
- get curtains up in our bedroom
- get curtains up in bens room
- mend curtains in living room - this is merely rawl plugs need replacing but OH hasnt got round to doing it!
Time to find me again0
