I was thinking of splitting a pillowcase to make two draught excluders too, i bought some from the charity shop as needed fabric for my patchwork blanket and have plenty of material left over- think i will give it a go now! Also got some festive fabric on ebay to add to my patchwork quilt, prob would of been cheaper buying one but i love the idea of making my own!Mummy of a beautiful little boy and fanatical about christmas

Kitchenbunny, a fellow forum member uses a small towel as a curtain for kitchen and bathroom, fairly thick, easily washed and can match the colour scheme. I think she said she rolled it up like a blind and tied it in place if I remember rightly.
A rolled up towel makes a great draught excluder too, no sewing, washable and you can use it in the summer, cheap too.0 -
purchased a double electric blanket on ebay for £18 with postage, its murphay Richards so hopefully its good quality. USing it to warm the bed rather then heat the full house when we are in bed, surely its got to be cheaper? Also got a stock of hot water bottles to heat my littleones bed- its a shame there is nothing safe for a toddlers bed tut
So, so far i have:
* Got a large stock of candles
*Put up lined curtains at bay window and french doors in living room
*Washed all hot water bottles and stored them away with wheat cusion
*Stored away each of our hats, scarves and gloves in a shoe box each
*bought 2 door snakes
*Having my front door relined with sealant and a new draft excluder and weather bar (curtsy of bugging the council!)Mummy of a beautiful little boy and fanatical about christmas:xmassmile:snow_laug:santa2:

If you haven't gone through your old clothes in wardrobes or drawers you don't normally go in, it's worth it. I've just found a Thinsulate beanie hat I didn't know I had - another one for the winter box

Neighbour went to ikea yesterday and got light blue fleece blankets for £1 each, she thought I would like some and bought me 4.
I will use these to line the curtains in our bedroom and lounge room, for warmth in the winter.

good to know they are still doing them. I got them last year and will be buying even more in a couple of weeks. They wash brilliantly too. Ours are used for any thing and everything0 -
Glad to know they wash well, couldnt believe it when she said they were only £1.
She goes past there once a fortnight, so she said she will get me some more the next time she is there.

Good idea! I'm going to go through mine, do any repairs (buttons on cardies etc) and sort through my winter socks. I have two thick dressing gowns but one of those needs a minor repair too, also need to sort through my pjs as lost some weight since last year so some are way too big now.. bit gutted as they are lovely too!Mummy of a beautiful little boy and fanatical about christmas:xmassmile:snow_laug:santa2:

Double electric blanket costs about 1p an hour to run.
Good value if you ask me and just a dream to get into on a freezing cold night.
When mine were toddlers I used to put them in an all in one fleece sleepsuit so it didn't matter so much if they kicked the covers off.0
