Sorry, its the siege mentality that I find amusing. I quietly prepare for snow weather, I live in an isolated farmhouse, if we get snowed in it can very often be for two weeks at a time, generally a good week of that will be without electricity as well. We just get on with it, so, no, I won't be caught out.

Its feeling quite chilly here today :( But I have warmed myself up with a bowl of HM Leek & Potato soup :D

Been to ex OH's house to clear out some more of my stuff. Collected fleeces to line my curtains, another SC!!! Much bigger than our one, the BM :D and various other bits and bobs inc my wind up torch which I tested last night... I wound it for probably a little over a minute and then put it on full (3 LEDs) and it went on for over 40 minutes!!!!!!! I was really impressed. Its a Woolworths one that the ex bought me a couple of years ago. I have ordered a couple more inc 2 for the kiddies.

Still need to get candles, rug for hallway and something to warm up the kitchen floor (laminate) any ideas there please?

Need to insulate loft hatch... Never really noticed cold coming from it - would it make much of a difference?

Definately need to stock the pantry with supplies for winter - would rather avoid driving at all costs if we have a repeat of last year (which i'm sure we will). I got stuck in gridlocked traffic due to the flaming gritters being sent out too late and it took me 4 hours to do a 6 minute journey

Seriously thinking of getting winter tyres altho i'm sure I can't afford them... Might investigate cost.

  • Hi Everyone,

I have bought some new slippers for me and the kids (OH already has indoor slippers / outdoor slippers  and a spare pair)!

I have been given some more wood (seasoned Oak, so that should burn well) and at the weekend i de-frosted and re-organised the freezers. I also made a list of what meat and fish is in there (and had much more than I thought, loads of some things eg. 9 lamb joints  and 20 steaks  ) Very little chicken though and only one packet of mince left)! I even found some trout a neighbour caught which i had completely forgotton about that he gave to me in return for the free eggs i give him.

 Mmmm Just wondering if my freezer leads to Narnia by any chance! New book springs to mind 'The lion, the motivated witch and the Freezer' :D

My freezer is alittle like that at the moment.

I keep finding odd packets of this and that, which I'd forgotten I had.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

Maybe I find it odd because, as I said, I live in a seriously isolated spot, so its "normal" for us to have emergency things in place, we can get the snow here at the start of December, then generally off and on for a couple of months (DS had snow on his birthday this year - in April!). Basically if there is snow in Wales, it lands on me, so these things are just everyday to me. Obviously I dont have a clue where the other posters live, whether they are rural, semi-rural or in towns, but I am betting that there are very few on here that would have serious problems in the event of a few days bad weather.

How about TJ Hughes, they often have some reasonable ones - or Dunelm Mill
