I am a very happy bunny tonight - my hubby's Mum has given me her 1970s Kenwood Chef A701a mixer! She can't remember if she has the liquidizer but I can always get one of those they sell them on ebay but I do have the whisk, K paddle thingy and the dough hook.
I am just chuffed! :T:T:T:T:TDonna
Economy; careful management; providence. Whether you call it thrifty or frugality it all comes down to getting more for your money.0 -

Has anybody heard what the long range forcast is for this winter0

Could anyone tell me how do you work out how much gas central heating costs to run? I know my bills during the very cold snap were horrendous so it'd be good to work it out.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I'd like to know that as well
Forecast is not good atm MrsR...My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly
Our Precious Baby Tianna has now joined our Family, she is much loved and very welcome, xxx0 -

I'm on a prepayment meter so it's easy for me to check how much gas I use as I can see how much money I'm using. I also log how many units I'm using and how much it has cost me every week. Last year I did become a bit obsessive about it as I didn't want to run out during the very cold spells.
It costs me around 45p an hour maybe a touch more. I've spent £2.50 on the heating since thursday but have only had it on for an hour or two each day and this is usually early evening. Once the curtains are closed, and I've put on another jumper, the house keeps the heat in so i turn it off.
My old fathful hot water bottle which has been going strong for 15 years gave up on me this week. The stopper has broken so I'll have to go out and buy a new one. I'd only just finished knitting a nice stripey cover for it as well.
I'm shocked by the food prices shooting up. I'm holding out buying some things as I'm hoping that the supermarkets will have a price cut spree before christmas, meaning the prices will be more used to what we're paying. I notice this happens in tesco a lot where prices are ridiculously high then they have a 'saving you money' promotion. I'm hoping the bread flour goes below a pound a bag, I prefer to use this rather than the value stuff for bread. I have been stocking up and have enough to last a few months but things aren't looking good for the new year if prices keep jumping up.0 -
On the second of those newspaper links, the following bit has annoyed me:
"6 SET your room thermostat at or around the recommended temperature of 21C (70F). Turning down your heating thermostat by 1C could save around £60 a year."
Surely those more vulnerable and cash-strapped people will read that and realise that for every 1c they turn UP their heating, it could cost them an extra £60 a year, and panic. Which kind of negates the "keep warm, stay at 21 degrees" advice that went before
Our heating is currently set to 16 and so far so good but we're all young and can bustle about to get warm.
T'is bleddy FREEZING here outside in the West Mids today!!!!!0 -
