Help with mobile phone (mainstream) for visually impaired

Hi folks,

I have not used my old mobile for ages, mainly because I cannot see the lcd screen. I find dark grey on grey hard to see due to poor contrast also I can no longer read standard print so I need a phone with text I can make bigger like 14-18pt I suppose.

I have seen my mums phone a Samsung D6xx (cant remember exact model - though it was one of the expensive ones).

My requirement is mainly as large a bright colour screen as possible with options to enlarge text. Big buttons etc are not important.

As for an integrated camera - not bothered.

Needs to be PAYG and cheap!!! (if poss)

Already checked out the RNIB website but all they have is an ugly looking talking mobile (costs a fortune!!) with no display. I am in the middle ground really not ready for this sort of phone but find it impossible to use most of the current mobiles.

Staff in shops know very little about what I am asking for as they often draw a blank look when I start talking about how I change contrast/text size etc.

You can change text size on the Samsung but it is limited to just displaying the phone numbers.

Is there a way of "hacking" the mobile OS to acheive what I want???

The other phone I was thinking of was the Razor one by motarola.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Jules

PS I am also after a decent cordless phone with similar requirements. So far the best I have seen is the Freestyle 6300 and 650 models by BT. Any1 aware of any non BT phones that are of any use??? Again I don't really want "big" buttons etc just a decent display which displays largish text.

Just looked at the 1101 and it is unfortunately no good. I downloaded the manual and saw that there was no way of changing the text size. But it looks like it may have a good highish contrast screen.

The samsung picture I had a look at of the Samsung phone is not the one my mum has. Hers is a clamshell design.
