Travel insurance if partner has pre-existing condition

I've been going round in circles on this one and need your help. My wife has recovered fully from a medical emergency of 4 years ago and is a super-fit gym user, but because she has to take Warfarin daily for life she obviously has to declare a pre-existing medical condition (thrombosis) on her travel insurance. She is with Saga who I thoroughly recommend for this kind of thing.

However I now want to book my own separate travel insurance - happily my health is good. The problem is that every insurance policy seems to exclude cover if I curtail my holiday because of a pre-existing condition of a travelling companion known at the time of booking. Given I'm hardly likely to continue my holiday if my wife became sick from her declared condition, how do I find a policy to cover my return costs in that (unlikely) situation or is the answer to buy a joint policy? Thanks for any ideas you might have...

  • You could try a company called PJ Hayman. They have a policy called free spirit that covers pre-existing medical conditions. I suggest you speak to them and explain your predicament. Its possible that if you were to take a joint policy out with them you may get the cover you want. No guarantees but definatley worth a phone call.
