Probate - sent forms in...now what

We sent our probate forms and all other supporting documentation to the probate office (Liverpool) about 3 weeks ago and have not heard anything - is this normal? Would we at least receive an acknowledgement or do we have to wait until we get our appointment? If so, how long is normal to have to wait?
Mother is desparate for the money to be released (plus we've had lots of problems with organisations receiving and then losing/destroying things like marriage/birth/death certificates so we're a bit twitchy...plus its would have been my Father's birthday next week so things are a bit hard at present)

If I remember rightly, I received a letter with an appointment at my local probate office a couple of weeks after sending in the application forms. Had to go in an swear on oath and sign something. Then the grant of probate and copies were posted out to us within a few days.
Hope you hear from them soon, OP.From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0 -
Sorry for your loss.
I can't remember how long it took between submitting our forms and getting the appointment, but why don't you give the Probate Office a call and ask? I'm sure we didn't get an acknowledgement, just an appointment, which fortunately I was able to phone and change because in the gap my brother had got himself booked up!
It was then less than two weeks before the grant and copies were posted out to us.
One tip: if you are going to need an Executors' Bank Account, you can probably get it set up now before you have the grant. We did that, so at least we had the paying in book ready to use! We couldn't have a cheque book before there was money in the account.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Give them a ring, and give them your phone number. Ask them to call you when they make your appointment (mine took about 4 weeks from putting the paperwork in to actually going to Liverpool). They are very friendly and helpful people there.0
