Why would claiming contribution based ESA only be temporary?
It's reliant on you paying enough N.I. credits in the two years prior to your claim but you can continue claiming it idefinitely providing you continue to satisfy the conditions .

Did her doctor say that she shouldn't be working at all or just shouldn't be working a physically demanding job? It's usually better for a person's mental health to work or at least do voluntary work which is why if you are claiming ESA and placed in the Support Group you are allowed to work on a voluntary basis.

I just thought that contribution based runs out? I had no idea you could continue claiming it indefinitely. Thank you.

Yes he said she shouldn't be working at all. And I understand some people claiming ESA are allowed to work on a voluntary basis if they are able to. And I believe for the people that have an illness or disability that severely affects your ability to work, they are not expected to prepare for a return to work? :)

People are just trying to be helpful.

In other threads, you've said that you don't want the stigma of claiming DLA and have been trying to come off it for years.

As I said, I wasn't talking about anyone on here. So apologies if anyone was offended - it was just a general rant as I explained. I have thanked eveyone on here for their help and I appreciate it.

Also, the above quote re ESA and DLA wasnt mine.

    Hi,
Yes contribution based does have a time limit, after this it goes to Income related, which I doubt she would be entitled to if her husband is working full time.

Contribution based ESA does not have a time limit.

I should know, I am at the moment, an uncontrolled,Type 1 insulin dependent. In addition I too suffer from Neuropathy.
In addition I have severe Chronic Pancreatitis, Pancreatic Insufficiency, Peusdocyst of the Pancreas, Permanent Thrombosis of the Spenic Vein, Varices of the Collaterals in the Stomach and Oesophagus walls, as well as a mental illness which has needed hospitalisation in a secure unit - and I failed both ESA and DLA!!

Having failed the medicals, I now claim JSA and hope and pray they don't find me a job!!

How is the bungalow building going? (apparantly he is financing and building a bungalow!)

OP, I really would not listen to andyandflo. He gets reported all the time for advicating fraud.

I would suggest that you put in a application for DLA, you have nothing to lose.

DLA is based on care and /or mobility needs; not diagnosis. ESA is based on what you can't do; not diagnosis.

You want to look up what my conditions will allow me to do in the DWP Medical Handbook!
You will see that one or two might enable me to do some work, put the whole lot togther and you have a totally different answer.
Likewise for DLA, the care I need is clearly stated in the manual as is the mobility issue.

You should not go making sweeping statements without reference to the DWP's own DM handbook - that is the reason why I highlighted all of my illnesses.

It's the care they think you may need - not the care that every person with your conditions will need.

That was for the mental illness which started in 1994. By 2004 I had managed to get rid of the DLA as I felt it was a stigma.

Since then other illnesses have arisen which have brought the mental illness back to the forefront again.

So I re-applied but was turned down for both ESA & DLA.

Maybe in hindsight I was wrong to get rid of the DLA, but it was how I felt at the time.
