Question - Terrorism exclusion home insurance

My latest home insurance now excludes any claim relating to ‘acts of terrorism’. Does anyone know what the Government will pay and how you claim?

Generally, no. I must admit that I am a bit worried by your question....

Most insurers have been excluding terrorism for a long time.... but at the same time many insurers have also paid out on terrorism as a guesture of goodwill (ie they dont want the bad publicity after someone is killed in an incident like 9/11 of turning them down)

The normal criminal injuries compensation system would give compensation for bodily injury/ psychological damages but I am unaware of any schemes that pay out for property damage from terrorism

  • You should check the definition of terrorism. It usually means biological, chemical or nuclear attack, or contamination as a result of.

To think of some unpleasant examples, if someone blew up your house, or flew an aeroplane into it, then that would normally be covered (hoping that you're not inside at the time).
