Medical Assessment- what does it entail?

I think it's a case of having a discussion with the assessor which takes in the questions. I've got my assessment on Tuesday and my case is neurological so my assessment is likely to be similar to your son's (i.e. the physical aspects such as distance walking are irrelevant as it's my mental state not my physical which is stopping me working). I'll let you know how it goes if you want. (I'm worried too
)
Thank you, that would be great.0 -

Have just come back from my ESA assessment. Basically I sat down with the doctor and we had a basic discussion on what my medical history was - any diagnoses, what specialists I've been seeing, what my symptoms have been.
Then social history - where I live, who I live with... Last employment.
Then we started with the questionnaire on the computer but rather than asking me yes/no questions it was more like a discussion so for example he'd tell me that he was looking at the section on social interaction then ask a few questions. We discussed it, he ticked the boxes and wrote some notes.
I generally got the impression he was trying to get me as many points as possible and he was getting frustrated because the system doesn't allow for subtlties so kept typing extra notes.
He did a brief physical exam at the end: checked my reflexes (knees and elbows), watched me walk, had me reach to the ceiling, hold my arms in front and behind me and bend to try to touch my toes. Also tested my grip by asking me to squeeze his fingers.
The whole thing lasted 50 minutes and the doctor was helpful and patient so if your son gets someone similar he should be fine
Now to wait to see what the DM says.
Does anyone know how long that's likely to take?
I didn't have to do a Work-focussed health assessment, does that mean anything?0 -
Thanks Mrs.Manda that's really useful to know. It's the luck of the draw with the doctors though isn't it, some are really helpful like yours seems to be and others seem to be working to the instructions to fail, fail, fail!
His appointment is next week so we will have to wait and see!0
